Karen McTavish
Karen McTavish has been longarm quilting since 1997 and professionally teaching since 2000. Karen specializes in award-winning Heriloom Trapunto quilting and wholecloth quilting using techniques which allow any machine quilter to replicate traditional “hand-quilted” effects. She has been featured on Simply Quilts and writes articles for national quilting magazines and journals. Karen has authored five books, including Quilting for Show 1 & 2, Whitework Quilting, Mastering the Art of McTavishing and Secrets of Elemental Quilting.
Karen lives on Lake Superior’s north shore, quilting and teaching in her store “McTavish Quilting Studio.” She has two children, Ally and Storm.Class # 307 - Wholecloth Design Class

Class Type - Drawing
Skill Level - Everyone
Learn to design an original wholecloth from scratch! Your wholecloth will be entirely marked and ready for trapunto, hand-quilting, or machine quilting by the end of the class. See a variety of wholecloth quilts in the trunk show, and hear a short lecture on the history of wholecloth.
There is a $10 kit fee for this class. (Additional kits will be available for sale in class)
- 4-6 Mark-B-Gone Blue Pens (not fine line, only blue water-soluble pens- no pink, no pencils)
- Fabric – white or off white, washed and pressed. No larger than 60 x 60. Ok to leave the seam allowance. No piecing, must be whole-cloth. (Squaring up must be done before class!)
- Omnigrid rulers, long rulers of any size with ¼ inch markings. Rulers can be purchased in class by Quilter's Rule.
- All Clover Eraser Pens and Mark-B-Gone Blue Pens can be purchased in class from instructor- if you do not have marking pens available in your area or wish not to bring them with you.

This class is for any quilter that needs direction in designing quilting ideas for un-quilted tops. Karen McTavish takes the mystery out of designing quilts tops with very simple instruction.
Students will bring quilt tops to class and learn how professional figure it all out and turn boring quilts into award-winning quilts.
