Pam ClarkePam Clarke

Pam Clarke has been quilting since the late 1960’s and sewing for 46 years.  She lives in Spokane WA and grew up in Sacramento CA.  Pam has been machine quilting and teaching machine quilting, piecing and appliqué classes since 1988.  She is the owner of Homes Stitches a professional machine quilting business that was started in 1988.  Her work can be seen in several published magazines and books.  She quilts for Debbie Mumm, K-P kids, Fiber Mosaics, Mary Lou and Company, Fabric Sales, Kaufman, Bernantix, Retta Weirheim and Martingale.   To this date she has quilted over 7000 quilts and has made several hundred.  Pam has appeared on Quilt Central and with Linda Taylor for PBS. She has also been featured in Fons and Porter as a Celebrity Quilter.

Pam teaches all over the USA including IMQS, Innovations, Machines in Motion, The Home Machine Quilt IMQX in NH and several local shows in the Northwest.

Her favorite type of quilting is appliqué mixed with simple piecing with a scrappy look that has won her numerous ribbons across the USA.

Join Pam Clarke as she shares 25 of her favorite background designs.  Using the workbook and sample provided in class, draw and stitch along with Pam as she guides to you making a stain glass-looking wall quilt with great background fillers.  Swirls, leaves, loops, stars, waves, ivy, herky jerky, echo, and paisley with several samples will be available along with helpful hints on where and when to use them.  Learn how to jazz up your quilting and prove to your friends and customers that you can go beyond stippling. 

Materials:  Most materials are included in the $15 class fee.

Class # 310 - Designs From Simple Shapes and Blocks
Thursday, Aug. 5th, 9-11
Class Type - Demonstration with Longarm Machine
Skill Level - Confident Beginner

No need to search for pre-cut stencils to fine the perfect fit!  Take a simple circle, swirl, 9-patch, or heart and add a few basic shapes to create fantastic designs to be used in borders blocks, sashing, corners and set-in blocks.  Use these simple shapes to make Amish feathers with a circle, beautiful swirl shapes for large borders or small shashing.  Pam Clarke will demonstrate using the Longarm from the free-motion side of the machine.

Materials:  Most supplies are provided in the $5 class kit.

Class # 431 - Easy Elegant Borders
Friday, Aug. 6th, 1-3
Class Type - Demonstration with Machine
Skill Level - Confident Beginner

Work with corners and sashing using straight line stencils as a registration point to develop outstanding free-motion designs with the least amount of stops.  Discover how to make continuous borders with very little marking from the front of the machine.  Discuss how to deal with wavy borders and sashing and learn what will work best to camouflage un-even borders or areas that don’t lay flat.

Class # 210 - Longarm Effortless Applique

Class Type - Hands-On with Longarm Machine

Learn four show-stopping techniques to jazz up your quilting using Longarm, short-arm or home machines.  Pam Clarke will share a fast, trapunto technique with mock appliqué, blank-stitch, stain glass and raggy appliqué.  Several background stitches along with several folk-type flower designs will also be covered.  View a demonstration on the Longarm Machine creating several flowers and leaves that will be stitched onto a muslin sample, followed by a background design to compliment each appliqué sample.

Materials:  Most supplies are provided in the $15 class kit.


Class # 411 - Fearless Beginning to Free-Motion Quilting

Discover the secrets to smooth quilting and basic quilt designs from the front of the machine.  Pam Clarke will demonstrate how to mark a quilt top, create background stitches, and learn the seven basic quilt patterns to create unlimited quilt designs, including feathers, hearts, leaves, waves, etc.

Class # 503 - Half Square Triangles and Flying Geese
Saturday, Aug. 7th, 9-11

Skill Level - Confident Beginner

Discover great ways to fill up those half square triangles!  Pam Clarke will show you amazing ways to use free-motion designs for set in triangles, odd triangle settings, and flying geese along with different shape blocks and borders.  Some simple Designs with Lines technique will be covered along with how to use registrations lines to keep spacing even with very little marking.  Learn how to work with flying geese in a continuous motion, filling up the triangle and background with the least amount of stops.  Get great ideas and designs that are traditional, yet fun and easy.
