Irena BluhmIrena Bluhm

Irena Bluhm is a longarm quilter since November 2004.  She is teaching all major venues in the United States, including American Quilter’s Society shows and International Quilt Festival in Houston along with private workshops worldwide.  Irena is an internationally acclaimed, award winning long arm quilter, instructor, author and pattern designer. 

With 18 years of garment making and design experience as well as 12 years of fine art for a hobby, Irena applies her experience on quilts exclusively for exhibits.  Irena has authored eight books and winner of 60 national and international quilt competitions.

You don’t have to be an artist!  Learn how easy it is to apply color to a small, ready-for-painting, already quilted piece using colored pencils.  Learn how to do shading to make your designs look dimensional, and use bold colors and stark contrast to create drama.

Materials:  All supplies provided in the $35 class kit.  No other materials are needed.

Say goodbye to any conventional way of using strippling to fill in negative spaces on any quilt.  This very unique, easy to understand and easy to execute technique will have your creative juices flowing as you add your own twist to Irena Bluhm’s ideas.  From very dense to allover, this technique is very forgiving and the visual effects are very impressive.  No planning ahead and no marking of the background designs are required.

Materials:  Most supplies are provided in the $25 class kit.

The flexibility in creating quilting designs using these feathers can never be underestimated!  Starting with the basics followed by more advanced designs, you will learn how create these charming, unique plumes of feathers and feather swags and how to fill any shape and form with these charming feathers.  Irena Bluhm will show you how to make them look as if they are about to float off your quilt.

Class # 408 To Piece or Not to Piece-This is the Answer!

The most beautiful, stunning and intricate details of pieced blocks can be easily achieved using this technique.  Each student will create a unique quilt design marked on their quilt top ready to be stitched before the class is over.  One hour hands-on coloring session is incorporated into this exciting hands-on workshop experience.

Materials:  Most supplies are provided in the $25 class kit. 
Please bring your own:

    • 45”x45” no larger than 60”x60” [squared up] of white, off white 100% cotton sateen or high-quality bleached muslin
    • (2-4) Mark B Gone blue washable marking pens and clover eraser pen,
    • (1) 24” plastic ruler
    •  (1) light box [if 100% cotton sateen or any other high thread count fabric is used]

Class # 508 Whimsical and Funky Feathers
Saturday, Aug. 7th, 8-11

Skill Level - Confident Beginner

Learn how to make feather swags to fill any triangle, square, rectangular, round oval or other shape by using these charming and easy-to-execute feathers.  These feathers are easier to create than formal feathers-no backtracking, period!

Materials:  Most supplies are provided in the $12 class kit. 
Please bring your own:

  • Drawing pad [with no lines or grid]
  • Pen

Class # 528 Freehand Embellisment Extravaganza
Saturday, Aug. 7th, 1-3
Class Type - Drawing
Skill Level - Confident Beginner

Learn how to create your own patterns by embellishing any shape in a freehand motion using formal feathers, or any of Irena’s whimsical and funky feathers collection.  Use any circle-making device or any template and turn it into your favorite toy!  There are thousands of patterns available on the market, but the best and most beautiful patterns may be the patterns that you have created.

The $12 class kit includes most materials. 

Please bring your own drawing pad [with no grid lines] and pen.
